National Safeguarding Adults Week - 16th-22nd November 2020

National Safeguarding Adults Week, organised by The Ann Craft Trust, will take place nationwide from Monday 16th November to 22nd November 2020.

The week of action creates a focus on the important issue of safeguarding adults and highlights various themes and risks within this area. The campaign also encourages communities and professionals to get involved by recognising the signs of abuse and crucially how to report anything of concern.

This year Ann Craft Trust have chosen one theme each day to highlight. These are:

  • Monday - Safeguarding and Wellbeing
  • Tuesday - Adult Grooming
  • Wednesday - Understanding Legislation
  • Thursday - Creating Safer Places
  • Friday - Organisational Abuse
  • Saturday - Sport & Activity
  • Sunday - Safeguarding in Your Community.

Wigan Safeguarding Partnership will be supporting the week of action via their social media channels on Facebook and Twitter. The Partnership will also be reaching out to encourage followers to attend a virtual session organised by the Ann Craft Trust which discusses Adult Grooming, and an online session to be delivered by the Greater Manchester Nutrition and Hydration programme which focusses on malnutrition and dehydration in older people and avoiding safeguarding issues.

In addition, Wigan Safeguarding Partnership will also be highlighting some additional themes which fall within their priorities. Issues such as bereavement, suicide prevention, including where to access free suicide awareness online training, hoarding, trauma-informed approaches, mental health resources, safeguarding resources for community groups during COVID-19 and how community groups can help to safeguard their members, will also be promoted.

An interactive social media safeguarding ‘question time’ session will also take place throughout the day on 20th November on the Partnership Twitter and Facebook channels. Followers will be encouraged to contribute to the conversation. Responses will then be analysed to inform future work.
